I love cruises. If I am totally honest I was more than nervous before my first cruise. We’ve all seen Titanic, and Jaws. It easy to be afraid of the “Great Blue.” Most ship today are rigorously tested, cost hundred of millions of dollars, and are floating cities. With so much news about people going overboard, or Norovirus it easy to let your fears run away with you. So, let’s get to it. Start with safety… every ship has life rafts and vest for all souls on board. You can’t even leave the dock until you have your safety briefing called “Muster Drill.” This tells you where to report in case of emergency evacuation. Ships have navigation instruments on board to pre-warn them about hazards. Anyone who handles food goes though training on proper handling, and sanitation, ships dispose of waste in the manor that is compliant with stringent rules governed by Clia (Cruise Line International association). Every day the folks at Clia are working to find new ways to reduce carbon foot prints, take care of our environment, and reduce the amount of waste that is generate by cruise ships. There is a police presence, emergency medical staff, and handicap accessible facilities on board all ships.
